Dr. Stephan Leisengang, research fellow at the Institute of Medical Psychology and Behavioral Immunobiology, was awarded with the First Place of the ‘Animal Welfare Award 2022’ of the University Hospital Essen. The award was conferred by Professor Jochen Werner, Medical Director and CEO of the University Hospital Essen, and Professor Gero Hilken, Director of the Central Animal Laboratory of the University Hospital Essen. The submitted project on neuro-glial primary cell cultures of the nociceptive system to complement in vivo studies in pain research and, thereby, reducing the number of animals and minimize stress in line with the 3R-principle, convinced the jury to award Stephan’s work.
