BIOME 2023

25.10.2023.

Impression BIOME retreat.

During the Behavioural and Clinical Neuroscience retreat 2023 in the White Loft in Düsseldorf, members presented their dissertation projects in form of a digital poster. However, before presenting their work, members had to introduce oneself to the group by using a digital „Bio Sketch“ comprising informations of „Education“, „Skills“, and an „About Me“- section. Finally, they had to explain „Why I pursue a Phd/MD?“.

The creativity regrading the „Bio Sketch“ was very inspiring and funny, the presentation oft the dissertation projects very precise and informative, causing a lot of valuable feedback from students to students. After this intense exchange of scientific information, Psychologist Beatrix Stahlberger gave an impressive interactive keynote talk on the subject "Emotional Intelligence - Personal + Social Competence" which was followed by a workshop + coaching of difficult situations you may face during you doctorate thesis. The retreat ended with a „get together“ and a nice dinner + drinks.

05.01.2023.

Dr. Stephan Leisengang, research fellow at the Institute of Medical Psychology and Behavioral Immunobiology, was awarded with the First Place of the ‘Animal Welfare Award 2022’ of the University Hospital Essen.
The award was conferred by Professor Jochen Werner, Medical Director and CEO of the University Hospital Essen, and Professor Gero Hilken, Director of the Central Animal Laboratory of the University Hospital Essen.
The submitted project on neuro-glial primary cell cultures of the nociceptive system to complement in vivo studies in pain research and, thereby, reducing the number of animals and minimize stress in line with the 3R-principle, convinced the jury to award Stephan’s work.
